"Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

A new year and a blank canvas to create a masterpiece;
may love and compassion be your song, your poem, your story.

Well, I dusted off my treadmill in preparation for another shot at fulfilling at least one resolution this year when I suddenly thought better of it.  I was watching the news, you see--all the problems of the day laid out in soundbites--and it made me think.

More and more often in this crazy-busy world we occupy, we limit our experiences and interactions to those involving folks who look like us, act like us, think like us, live like us.  In fact, in the imperfection of our humanity, we often make assumptions about people who don't. Those assumptions can play out in mistrust, bias, and, at its worst, even hatred and violence.

There are people in our communities, human beings just like us who are also not like us -- different ages, incomes, races, religions, philosophies, political affiliations, lifestyles. . .

If only. . .

If we could let go of stereotypes and treat others the way we would like to be treated, and if we could "walk a mile in their moccasins" before speaking or acting unkindly, what a wonderful 2016 this would be.

Oh, I'm still going to get going on that treadmill.

As for you. . .
